XC Setup and Installation Guide

This quick-start guide has been broken down into simple steps to serve as a check-list for easy setup and installation of the amBIENT XC.

  1. Make sure you have the latest Installer Tools package

    1. log in with your authorised dealer account
    2. click on "Downloads"
    3. download and install the latest Installer Tools package which will contain the latest firmware
  2. Update the firmware

    1. connect your PC to the XC via USB
    2. select "Update Firmware" from the Tools menu
    3. choose the FirmwareUpdate file with the latest version number and click "Open"
    4. choose the XC COM port (usually the last) in the list and click OK
    5. Firmware update should finish with a success message
  3. Set up your DMX configuration


    1. add a fixture to the list for each physical fixture you want to address
    2. edit the DMX address and fixture type to match the fixture
    3. with the fixture selected, click on the location compasses on the right to assign an amBX location. This describes to amBX the physical location of the fixture.
    4. optionally configure the Gamma and output min/max to ensure consistency between different fixture types or to match a video source
    5. repeat these steps until all your fixtures have been addressed
  4. Upload the DMX config to the XC

    1. connect your PC to the XC via USB cable
    2. select "Upload Fixtures" from the File menu
    3. choose the XC COM port (usually the last) in the list and click OK
    4. upload should finish with a success message
  5. Save your fixture setup for later use

    1. on the "Fixtures" tab, click on Save
    2. Fixture configurations can be loaded and saved for different venues or varying layouts.
      The currently loaded fixture setup is saved with the project when using "Save" from the "File" menu
  6. Customise your Mode selection

    1. click on the Mode Designer tab
    2. click on a mode you wish to edit or replace
    3. click "Browse" to open the Mode Library and choose a pre-made Mode
    4. click on one of the five colours to customise the Mode palette.
    5. click on the icon or Mode Name field to change how the Mode appears on the XC screen

  7. Set up your timetable


    1. Click on a Mode you wish to schedule
    2. Click on the position in the timetable you want that Mode to be active for
  8. Set hardware settings

    1. Change the time of the scheduled system check to something appropriate for your installation. During the check, DMX output from the XC will be interrupted
    2. Set the brightness and saturation offset to alter the colour output across all Modes

  9. Upload the Modes to the XC

    1. Connect your PC to the XC via USB cable
    2. Select "Upload Modes" from the File menu
    3. choose the XC COM port (usally the last) and click OK
    4. upload should finish with a success message
    5. When the XC has restarted, your Mode selection, timetable and settings should be transferred
  10. Save the entire project for later use

    1. choose "Save" from the "File" menu
    2. this will save the current fixture setup, customised Mode library, timetable and hardware settings in one folder
  11. Connect the XC

    1. Connect the XC to the top of your DMX chain via 5-pin XLR
    2. Connect composite video and/or audio sources as desired via RCA connectors
    3. Connect the power and wait for the XC to boot
  12. Check how the Modes look in the installation

    1. You may wish to go back through some steps to make sure everything is satisfactory.
    2. The Mode timetable, time, output brightness, contrast and colour tint and can be edited on the touchscreen interface
