Carnegie Mellon ETC Starship Bridge

A replica of Star Trek's Starship Bridge at Carnegie Mellon University's Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) features over 20 RGB LED fixtures, using an amBIENT XC to automatically generate lighting effects from content created by the students. The LED fixtures react to interactive devices that allow for interactive content-based control of the lighting in the space by visitors and guests.

The ETC and Carnegie Mellon School of Drama have both been given amBIENT XC units for student projects and experimentation. The first project will be at the 2009 Building Virtual Worlds show where two amBIENT XC units will be used to create an ambient lighting experience on the exterior of the ETC building. The interior of the Building Virtual World's auditorium will also react in real-time to the Virtual Worlds experiences created by the first year graduate students of the 2009 class of MET students.

"The ETC has been dedicated from its beginnings to finding and incorporating the latest technologies into entertainment, education, and experiential applications," adds Don Marinelli, Head of ETC at Carnegie Mellon University. "The amBX technology is a leap in this regard, and the Carnegie Mellon ETC is honored to be one of the premiere test sites for this technology."
